Tips on How to Have Good Advertising
Advertising a company's products or services is a tricky thing to do but by following these simple rules it may be a bit easier to get right!
- Make sure your advertisements tell a story and do not just convey information
A good advertisement must portray a story that has a beginning where someone encounters a complicated situation, a middle where someone confronts and attempts to resolve the situation and finally an end where the outcome is revealed. As advertisers you must not explain the action in the story they just leave it for each individual person to interpret it they way they understand the action. If you just simply display information in an advertisement it is too boring and people will not take interest in it.
- Make sure the audience will get the purpose of the advertisement
You must ensure that as well as having an entertaining advertisement/story you must make sure there is a direct connection to the purpose of the advertisement and that people will realize the call to action.
- Make sure the advertisement triggers basic emotions in the audience
You have to make sure that the advertisement triggers some kind of emotion with the audience so that the person will remember the advertisement. There are eight basic emotions: joy, surprise, anger, sadness, fear, disgust, anticipation and acceptance. By triggering these emotions in advertisements it means that people only need to see the advertisement once and they will remember it forever. Therefore, you will not need to pay for advertisements to be shown again and again.
- Make sure you use easy arguments in advertisements
Easy arguments are the conclusions people reach without a thought. You must try and use this technique in advertisements or they will not be successful.
- Make sure the advertisement does show AND tell
You must ensure that advertisements do not just show something without telling the audience what it is or what it does.
- Make sure you use language and images that are related to people's senses
You must ensure that in the advertisement the images and language make sense to the audience.
- Make sure that your advertisement match what people see and what they hear
You must ensure that the audio and visual messages that you include in the advertisements are ones that are normally coordinated together.
- Make sure you stay with a scene long enough for impact
You must not include lots of quick cuts to different scenes in an advertisement because people have limited processing capabilities so make sure you keep the camera on the scene long enough to make a lasting impression. People tend to take about eight to ten seconds to process and produce a lasting emotional response to a scene in an advertisement.
- Make sure the visual images are powerful and speak for themselves
You must ensure that the visual images in advertisements are powerful enough so that not much talking has to be done.
- Make sure that you use memorable music
Using memorable music in an advertisement will enable people to trigger their emotions every time they hear it.
