There are numerous things that clients look for or want to know before they pick an advertisement agency. So it is vital that you are aware of these and have solutions or answers to them all.

  • They will want to know the size of your ad agency. Do not worry they do not mind if it is a large or a small agency, they just need to know if you will have enough people or resources to carry out their advertising needs.
  • They will check to see if you are a member of any advertising associations so it may be a good idea to join a reputable one because if you are not companies may hold it against you.
  • They will ask what media you specialize in and if you have any creative strategies that you prefer to adopt. When just starting up you probably will not specialize in anything specific because your main goal is to get business so use this as a selling point that you will be prepared to specialize in whatever they want you to.
  • They will want to know about your previous campaigns and how successful they were. So make sure you put all your effort into every campaign that you do and if you do not have any previous campaigns then prove to the client that you want to work for them to make it your first and best campaign!
  • They will want to know about the clients you have worked with before and who you are working with now. So make sure you are on good terms with all previous clients.
  • They will want to know who will be working on their account so make sure they meet the people in question and are happy about it. Do not portray that the person pitching to the client will be involved if the really wont be.
  • They will want to know if you know their competition so do your homework and know everything about the clients competition. This is vital especially if you have never worked in that particular sector before.
  • They will want to know how you measure and assess a campaign's effectiveness so make sure you have plans on what you are going to do.
  • They will want to know how much you charge and if you will accept a payment by results agreement. This is totally up to yourself, however if you are starting up money is going to be extremely tight and you can not afford to put money out for advertisements and then not receive any cash coming in from the client.
  • They may also want references from previous clients or people you have worked with so it is vital especially at the beginning of the business that you make a good impression with everyone you work with. Reputation is extremely important!

If the companies are not concerned with the size of your agency, why would they ask. If they ask, it is important to them. Sometimes they may want a small company and other times they want to work with a bigger firm.
